Dettol, no-touch hand wash system

Right, this is one rant I’m simply going to let out there and purge my brain of the stupidity of the idea.

Dettol, and I pick on them because they’ve got an advert running prime time at the moment, have released a device for automatic dispensing of hand wash, without the need to touch anything. Not bad in itself one may think, well their ‘pull’ for buying this device is that soap dispensers harbour thousands of germs and by not touching said dispenser you won’t be infected. Well big news guys, if I’ve touched the dispenser I’m intending to wash my bloody hands with your germ killing hand wash!! How stupid!!

The real reason for the dispenser, and this is genius from a marketing perspective, is that after buying, you are tied in to Dettols, priced above average, soap. On from that, Dettol control how much soap you use, so they dish out a little more than is needed and sell more soap. Brilliant.

So my advise is to carry on with the good old fashioned bar of tar soap.
